NFL Team - Atlanta Falcons Any fan of the NFL is likely to know some trivia about his or her favorite team, and Atlanta Falcons trivia has a history as far back as 1965 when they first joined the NFL. This was prior to the AFL/NFL Draft, and apparently, there was a considerable amount of competition for the city of Atlanta between the two rival leagues. As in most cities, the presence of a suitable stadium was the biggest factor that had delayed the presence of a team in the city, and once Atlanta-Fulton Country Stadium was constructed, there was serious interest from both sides with the NFL eventually winning out. An Atlanta Falcons quiz will show that Tommy Noris has the distinction of being the first ever Atlanta Falcon. As an expansion team, they were granted first overall and several other picks in the draft, and he was the player they selected. They began playing in 1966, and would play nine regular season games before coming up with their first win against the Giants. After the merger, Atlanta Falcons trivia will show that they were a member of the NFC South division. They have since been the champion of that division three different times. They have also had a single Super Bowl appearance which took place in 1999. They have also had appearances in the playoffs via the Wild Card Spot. That 1998-99 season was clearly the Falcon's best in franchise history. The team finished with an outstanding 14-2 record, and defeated the Vikings to claim the NFC title. The Super bowl game however was played against an exceedingly tough Denver Broncos team, and the Falcons lost the game 34-19. An Atlanta Falcons quiz will clearly show the increasing success they had in the early twenty first century which was based largely upon their first round pick in the 2001 draft. The player they would draft would go on to be one of the most controversial in the NFL in the last decade, quarterback Michael Vick. Vick was praised for his outstanding physical ability, but in 2007 he was suspended by the league following a conviction on dog fighting charges. He was not re-signed by the Falcons after his release from prison and his reinstatement issued from the league. Instead, he went on to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles where he has been relegated to the role of backup. Matt Ryan is the quarterback for the Falcons.News for Saturday 16 January, 2010
