Sanchez will get next start vs. Ravens Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, coming off an impressive NFL debut, will start the New York Jets' preseason game at Baltimore Ravens today. The Jets and Head CoachRex Ryan announced yesterday that Sanchez would open under center against the Ravens in the nationally televised game on Aug. 24. Ryan previously determined that Kellen Clemens would start the preseason opener against St. Louis on Friday and the two would flip-flop against Baltimore. Sanchez came into the 23-20 loss with 28 seconds left in the first quarter and threw a 48-yard pass to David Clowney on his opening play. He completed three of four passes for 88 yards in one series that was capped by Thomas Jones' 1-yard touchdown dive. Kellen Clemens, entering his fourth season, was 4 of 4 for 24 yards and was sacked once -- and lost a fumble -- in two series. He was solid, but lacked the big plays or star presence that Sanchez had; the rookie received a loud ovation when he came in. It is really a blow for Clemens to hear of the news. He knows the playbook better than Sanchez but his ceiling isn't as high. "I'd say the good thing about that is that it's an outsider's opinion," Clemens said. "It's an insider who's going to make the ultimate decision. Rex has the ultimate decision." In answer to the question of what was going through his mind, Clemens said he was cheering for anybody that’s in a Jets uniform. On the whole, Sanchez is better off leading the Jets more than Clemens. His rousing debut instilled a sense of hope in the Gang Green universe. He's the QB the people want as well as being the best choice for the JETS...It'll be good to see him play against a strong defense...We'll really get to see what he is made of.News for Thursday 21 January, 2010
